Hickory-Dickory-Dock

It's Wednesday so it's time for Woogie Wednesday. This is where we make one of my found object (Junk A Doodle) pieces.

We actually did a little something different this time. We're posting Hickory-Dickory-Dock pieces over at the Illustration For Kids blog this week so I thought we'd work on that.

Here's what we started off with:

She helped me pick out the watches (I came across a huge back of old watch parts last year and had to get them) and painted the background. She announced that she was done painting so she helped me by handing me different paint colors and paint brushes.

Here's how it turned out:

I noticed that the floor and table in the background was a bit camouflage so I decided I could kill 3 birds with one stone and submit it for Illustration Friday this week.

Photo montage
I posted this over at big and little art but thought I'd share it here too.

I finally got around to putting new batteries in the Woog's camera and she started snapping everything she could.

I took 4 of her images and made a montage with a coupe of other overlay elements.

Wa-la, a fine art piece!

Had a wall to fill

I've been doing some moving around and redecorating of the house and I had a wall to fill, so I did a quick painting a few days ago. Not sure I like the placement in our bedroom yet, but I've hung it up to see if it grows on me.

Rejection

Rejection at the Dreamy Davy Factory.

I wrote a post a couple weeks ago about rejection that you can read here

I'm on a blog posting roll today. I posted here, here, here and here!

A Doggy!!

Nap time has resumed and everyone is happy again so it's time for Woogie Wednesday. This is where we make one of my found object (Junk A Doodle) pieces.

Here's what we started off with:

I then asked her, what should we make out of all this?
"How 'bout a flower? No, a doggy!"
"Which one" I asked.
"A Doggy!"

We work on the background and she would rather stamp some paper instead so she does that. I then start to assemble pieces and she decides to go off an do her own thing. She does come in and check on it from time to time and ask if I'm making her dog, Do-Wop. I tell her it really doesn't look like her dog, so she decides it must be someone else's.

Here's how it turned out:

I made him a yodeling dog since she's been yodeling all day for some reason. Not sure where she picked that up?!

I've had several people sign up for Big and Little Art but no one has confirmed their membership. It's pretty lonely over there with Stacy and I so won't you join us? By participating it helps your search engine results :)

Made it to WalMart
Well, I've done it. I've made it to the bookshelf at WalMart. While doing my regular book browsing at WalMart I spotted my pirate magnet book this morning right next to Johnny Depp himself (well, his picture on a book for the new pirates movie - which I'm going to have to watch about 3 more time to get what it's about). When I picked it up and looked at the magnets...ut-oh!

I was instructed to add a bleed around each magnet for the die-cut (I even provided the dine lines). I guess during the layout phase they went with a white border forgetting about the bleeds. I'm surprised this wasn't spotted at the proofing stage. It's very obvious if you know what you're looking at. I flipped the book over where there are pictures of the magnets, and same thing, the rough bleeds show. I hope they caught it for the next print run!

I have a two children's books where fonts were overlooked in the proffing stage. Apparently they didn't have the screen font loaded:

This one is a little hard to see from the scan. the cover uses the same font and it looks as it should.

This one spread used the same font throughout the artwork. Such a shame. It was beautifully illustrated but the font mistake overpowers it.

Sorry, it's the designer in me that finds mistakes. We live and we learn!

Not much time...

It's Wednesday again and we have very little time today due to VBS and swimming lessons all week. We did manage to do a little something. I'm getting items together for my etsy store and am working on some limited edition prints. She helped me with one of them today. She took my letterpress type collection and spread them out all over the table for me. Then I started shooting and here's the best one out of the bunch. It will be in my etsy shop soon so check back for the link.
